Ellen is currently studying Integrated Medical Sciences and Clinical Practice, and will undertake the Doctor of Medicine at UWA in her postgraduate years. After having worked as a tutor for four years, in 2020 she started up her own tutoring business along with two of her friends. Ellen loves being involved with her local community and is passionate about the importance of empathy. Through the Futures conference, she aims to equip our world’s future leaders with essential skills for leadership in an ever-changing society.
Josh is studying politics, philosophy and economics through a Bachelor of Philosophy at UWA. He is passionate about politics having last year been elected as Youth Leader of the Opposition at the YMCA Western Australian Youth Parliament to now this year volunteering to help run the Youth Parliament program. Josh wishes to later undertake law in his postgraduate studies and advocate for young people going through the West Australian legal system. Josh is passionate about youth leadership and is particularly excited to bring this passion to the Fogarty Futures Conference this year, encouraging young people to volunteer and be leaders in their community.
Henry is studying Integrated Medical Science at UWA through the Bachelor of Philosophy (Hons) program. In the community, he’s involved with surf lifesaving volunteering, patrolling regularly at North Cottesloe SLSC and instructing there and at his former school. He is also a Dr YES coordinator, a program involving medical students delivering sessions to high school students on alcohol and other drugs, mental health and sexual health.
Jason is this year’s Logistics Officer, and is studying Engineering Science and Physiology. He is a keen swimmer, having swum competitively for seven years, and is also an avid musician, playing classical and jazz piano and attempting to play the ukulele. Jason is passionate about education and the role of science in promoting humanitarian needs, working as a swim teacher and volunteering with Engineers Without Borders. He is excited to integrate these passions with the team’s vision for the 2021 Fogarty Futures Conference.
Ella is currently a fresher at UWA, undertaking a Bachelor of Philosophy, double majoring in Microbiology & Immunology and Biochemistry & Molecular Biology.
Ella loves sport; she currently plays social frisbee & netball, swims in the mornings, and enjoys the occasional run. She coaches netball, volunteers as a lifesaver at City of Perth SLSC and helps at her local church. Ella is passionate about the environment; she has joined organisations such as Tearfund Australia and can often be found surfing or relaxing at the beach. She aspires to become a leader in areas such as human health, making a difference through research or out in the field, while meeting amazing new people. She is looking forward to getting to know all of the inspiring young leaders on this years’ conference.
Emma is currently studying a Bachelor of Philosophy at UWA. Originally from Bunbury, she is passionate about improving access to quality health and education services in rural communities, and helping to bridge the gap between rural and urban outcomes. Emma is a keen sportsperson, dedicating much of her time to playing hockey competitively, as well as volunteering to coach and umpire junior athletes. She enjoys spending time in nature, regularly going on hiking and mountain biking adventures, and you can often find her diving in the ocean. She volunteers at the Dolphin Discovery Centre in Bunbury, helping to raise awareness around environmental conservation. Emma is excited to be involved in Futures, encouraging young people to recognise the power they have to make an impact in their local community.
