Shantelle Jeyakumar

Oversight Director

Shantelle was one of the fabulous co-convenors that successfully organised the 2022 Fogarty Futures conference alongside Naveen. She is currently studying Integrated Medical Sciences, and will undertake the Doctor of Dental Medicine at UWA in her postgraduate years. Having gained experience in leadership and organisation throughout high school as Head Prefect and DUX of her cohort, she continually seeks opportunities to further develop her leadership skills at UWA. Most notably, Shantelle is the Women of Colour Convenor of the UWA Womens’ Guild and was a Fresher Representative of the Fogarty Scholars Association. Shantelle loves being involved with her local community and is passionate about championing youth voices.

Naveen Nimalan

Oversight Director

Naveen was one of the fabulous co-convenors that successfully organised the 2022 Fogarty Futures conference alongside Shantelle. He is currently studying a bachelor of engineering majoring in automation and robotics and a bachelor in commerce majoring in management. Throughout high school Naveen has been involved with his school’s advocacy group. As the captain of his high school he started initiatives around his college aiming to improve the school experience for future students, with a social, panel, club, competition, council and extension program. Naveen has continued to give back to his community with his continual involvement with UN Youth, Eddie Rice camps, Ignite mentoring and recently has joined the 180 Degrees consulting team. As part of the Futures Conference, Naveen hopes to inspire the young leaders about how capable they are in making a positive impact in the community around them and aspires for all the students at the conference to be equipped with the vital leadership skills to best succeed as future young leaders of WA.

Mariya Faisal

Co-convenor

Mariya is studying a Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences, double majoring in Public Health and Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Mariya loves being involved in her local community and has worked on numerous projects to advocate for youth leadership in her community. Having gained leadership experience throughout highschool, such as being School Captain, a Student Councillor and the recipient of the ADF Long Tan Leadership and Teamwork award, Mariya hopes to utilise her abilities to positively impact WA’s brightest minds so they can be equipped with the necessary skills to become impactful leaders in their communities. As a Co-Convener for this year’s Conference, Mariya hopes to make this year’s conference accessible to all students throughout WA and looks forward to getting to know this year’s amazing young leaders!

Lucius Beh

Co-convenor

Lucius is currently studying a Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences majoring in integrated medical sciences and clinical practices and has an assured pathway to the Doctor of Medicine in his postgraduate years. Lucius has gained leadership experience at school through his participation in various activities, whether it may be basketball, music or volunteering within the community service advocacy. Furthermore, he has organized activities, forums and acted as a panelist with his local youth advisory/advocacy group, ultimately representing his community within YMCA Youth Parliament. During his spare time, Lucius enjoys playing basketball and his viola. As a Co-convenor of this year’s conference, Lucius is looking forward to meeting some of WA’s most motivated leaders and advocates, and he hopes to provide them with an enriching experience. 

Jade Wallwork

Logistics Officer

Jade is currently studying a Bachelor of Arts with a double major in Communication and Media Studies and Law and Society. She has an assured pathway to study the Juris Doctor and hopes to work as a human rights lawyer. Jade gained leadership experience throughout high school by serving in several leadership positions within both the school and boarding house, and by being actively involved in the school’s sustainability club. She participated in the Leadership Excellence Acceleration Program (LEAP Week) and will be returning this year as a mentor to support students in developing their interpersonal and entrepreneurship skills. Jade is looking forward to becoming involved within the UWA community; she is really excited to be working as Logistics Officer on the Fogarty Futures Leadership Conference team and will endeavour to offer a well-organised and rewarding experience. She can’t wait to work with passionate students from around WA to help them embark on their leadership journeys and become self-confident, community-oriented individuals. 

Sienna Hanikeri

Marketing Officer

Sienna is currently studying a Bachelor of Philosophy (Honours) majoring in integrated medical sciences and clinical practice, with an assured pathway to the Doctor of Medicine. She is looking forward to continuing to challenge herself personally and intellectually over her time at university. Sienna appreciates the opportunities she has had over the past few years, to participate in numerous sporting, academic, artistic and service-based activities. She is grateful for the friendships she fostered within various communities and communication, networking and leadership skills she gained. Sienna has a passion for middle distance running and in 2022, she had the honour of captaining the WA cross-country team, her school cross-country and athletics team, and serving as house sports captain. Having attending the Fogarty Futures leadership conference in 2020, Sienna is excited to be on the committee this year. As Marketing Officer, she hopes to establish a widespread awareness of the conference and understanding of the Fogarty foundation and is looking forward to meeting a diverse array of WA’s inspiring young students – our future leaders – on what is set to be an incredibly impactful and enriching conference.

Juliet Roux

Funding Officer

Juliet is studying a Bachelor of Philosophy (Honours) majoring in Business Analytics and Business Law. She plans to complete postgraduate law studies to qualify as a lawyer, and is excited by the opportunities to provide legal services to advance social equality in Australia. Juliet is also interested in international and diplomatic relations, a passion she’s explored through her involvement in UN Youth. As a delegate, she competed in national UN Youth events, including the National Conference and Evatt Competition. She now volunteers as a facilitator in the organisation, and enjoys hearing the voices and ideas of engaged youth while simultaneously building her leadership and event management skills. As Funding Officer for the Futures Conference, she hopes to connect with sponsors from diverse backgrounds to support local businesses and increase the level of awareness and community involvement in the Conference. Juliet is excited to meet bright young people at the Conference, to help develop the skills they will need to lead positive change in the future!
